John “JP” Petty, III

John “JP” Petty is a creative force shaping culture through storytelling and strategy. Growing up he never imagined advertising as a path. His passion for digital culture and storytelling led him to Wieden+Kennedy, where he became the youngest Executive Creative Director, spearheading campaigns like McDonald’s Famous Orders with Travis Scott and J. Balvin. Now, he’s forging his own path with 14th And Market, a creative agency dedicated to bold and culture-driven work.
John “JP” Petty, the creative mind and owner of 14th And Market, is now returning to his hometown Philadelphia to focus on growing his own agency. He shared his insights with us, answering some of our top questions about his journey, creative process, and the future of his agency.
Q: You recently launched your own agency, 14th And Market. What inspired you to take this bold step?
JP: My wife and I actually launched 14th And Market on March 17, 2018. It was born from the realization that the gems I found myself collecting over the course of my tenure at Translation could be shared and applied anywhere stories were being told; from album rollouts and fashion shows to artist showcases and with smaller, emerging local brands.
Q: 14th And Market makes the sentiment that you connect the block to the boardroom. What does this mean to you?
JP: We like to say 14th And Market is where "The Block meets The Boardroom" but it isn’t just a tagline—it’s our operating system. It means we identify the raw, unfiltered truths from the communities we’re serving or telling stories for, and refine them into ideas that make an impact at the highest level. It’s also why we never use the ampersand. We always capitalize the “A” in “And,” despite it being grammatically debatable. It’s because we are that bridge. That “And” is everything.
Q: How do you see your role as a trailblazer influencing the next generation of Black creatives in advertising and beyond?
JP: I’m the oldest of 4. Never in my life has my job been to succeed alone. I believe my purpose is to use my GOD-given ability to help open doors and keep them open. I didn’t get here alone, and the next generation shouldn’t have to, either. That means sharing game, making space, and drawing up plays so that my players can get up clean shots. I want young Black creatives who look like me, come from where I come from, and need breaks to know they don’t have to conform to be successful. The industry needs them—their perspective, their voice, their vision. My role is to make sure they see that, and to build a blueprint they can build on—or break entirely—to create their own.
Q: What vision do you have for the future of the agency?
JP: The future of the agency is without limit. So much so, we don’t even refer to it as an agency. No one who works at 14th And Market does, or should anyway. We’re more expansive than that today and will be even more in the future. We define ourselves as a multiplatform storytelling brand. Yes, we do commercial work, and due to my professional experience it has naturally become the key that opens many doors for us. But we’re also managing talent, we’re building a media network, we’re producing our own artifacts, and developing our own intellectual property. Those are our worlds. With them, we’re architecting a universe.

This month’s moodboard, celebrates the women who create, lead, and inspire. Women’s History Month is about recognizing the voices and impact of those who shape culture—past, present, and future. The Resource celebrates the creators and entrepreneurs who push boundaries and make moves that matter. Take a look at some of the incredible women inspiring us everyday.
